This issue of the Rebel Yell finds us bearing down on our next Tampa convention - RECON. After careful analysis of the demographics from the last convention several trends have emerged. This analysis was determined by carefully looking around the room at the last convention on Friday night and observing a full room. Basically we were a success, however most of the gamers were from "out of Town". They came early and stayed all weekend. Some might ask, "is this a problem". You filled all your rooms and had about 200 gamers. The answer is "No and Yes". No, on base numbers and making your budget, yes on getting local gamers out of their homes and into the convention hall. Clearly what is needed is getting the word out to the Tampa - St. Pete area that this is a good thing, plenty of games, quality games with great terrain and interesting scenarios. Again my armchair analysis of the data indicates that our City Ambassador program is making a difference. We have 13 identified people who have volunteered to ast as club representatives in cities around Florida. They did a good job of getting the word out. This infrastructure is starting to pay off. Some of the first effects were the strong Historical showing at Jonescon by HMGS South members (thanks to Bryan Stroup and the Gainesville Garrison). However in order to get to the next level of statewide representation we need for interested gamers from a variety of cities to "get on the board". It will be the determining factor in making HMGS-South either a regional organization or a truly statewide organization. Several board spots and officer positions will be coming available. I don't intend to keep this slot forever. At some point I'd like to play games again. Think about it. We have the talent all we need is some of your time. Use this issue of Rebel Yell to let us know if you are interested in being on the board. See you at RECON!
