Hurricon Time: 0800, Tinian Local Time: 2400

American forces consisting of Marine and naval units under overall command of Ray Phillips, landed Marine Raider, 3-main recon units on Tinian Island.

This action resulted in locating several Japanese assets, as well as boby trapping aircraft and land transportation equipment. Due to exceptional leadership of the Japanese Commander, Ben Bauer, what could have been crippling losses to personnel was avoided by having troops bedded down at their combat posts instead of garrison barracks. Although the damage was done, the recon teams were lost to the man due to well-placed island patrols.

At 0500 the Anerican commander elected to land his main forces early, taking advantage of the still darkness along with the shore smoke and artillery barrages. The Marines came ashore.

Coming in waves, landing in 3 landing craft, the Marine attacked the strongest of the two available beaches, landing directly in the face of the Japanese garrison.

Even with smoke and naval gunfire, the first wave suffered high losses. 1st squad, 1st platoon was down to 40% by the time the second wave came ashore and had managed to clear most of the land mines on the beach the hard way.

After approximately 3 hours of combat, including well-placed snipers and mines, the Marines had secured teh southern end of the island. Eliminating over 50% of Japanese personnel and 100% of Japanese artillery and vehicles.

The Japanese, having been pushed into the jungles of Tinian, still left a viable force with which to harass and bleed future American troops. But the door had been kicked in by teh Marines and 1 year from this date the Enola Gay would leave Tinian Island, ending war as we would not forget, and writing its own chapter in history.

Thanks to the players involved! U.S.- Ray Phillips, Dave & Dan Neal, Jesse Thompson, & Ken Schneegold; Japanese - Ben Bauer, Ed Wade, & Phil Tortorici.
