RECON 05 was an experiment in longer conventions. In the past a few staff and dealers would show up Thursday night and play Chuck’s Challenge. There was all Friday morning for dealer set up, getting the desk ready, and otherwise catching up (most necessary if Chuck’s Challenge ran to 3pm.) This time attendees were encouraged to do open gaming Thursday, and scheduled events were promised from Friday morning through Sunday afternoon. Terrain Too Good to Ignore-Jacksonville Garrison Game Thursday Night Much to my surprise it worked. As usual the Jacksonville Garrison were on hand and took up their place of honor at the entrance to the Coral Ballroom. By one member’s account, the darkest Africa and pirate scenery looked so good that a combination game was put on. While dealers (including myself) were unpacking our wares several games started and ran on towards midnight. A young friend we had brought along to see the show jumped into a WWI air combat game for the evening. The level of activity seemed almost as much as we normally get before work and school let out on Friday afternoon. Could the momentum be maintained?
We still have a bit of room for more gamers, but the action took place all over the facility. Big games in the Atrium, RTT upstairs, Seekrieg and Board games on the side, DBA in the hallway, and LRPG in the Tropic. The momentum was maintained.
The action carried through Friday, Saturday, and on into Sunday afternoon.
But what could you expect. He was only an evil magician, not a Great Captain of History like Freddie.
