HMGS South's Recon 2005 once again hosted the North American Society of Ancient and Medieval Wargamers (NASAMW) Deep South Regional 'De Bellis Antiquitatis' (DBA) Tournament. The event drew 10 players, both experienced and novice, pitting their favorite historical armies against all comers in this 'Open' format tournament. The classical period proved more popular this event with six pre-Dark Age armies. Four players charged in with Medieval with many a Knight gaining fame and fortune (if they survived the massed volleys of arrows!) Following three preliminary round games the top four scoring players advanced to two rounds of sudden death single elimination. 1st Pat Rosato: Carolingian Frankish
Special recognition goes to Tony Aguilar and his beautifully painted El Cid Medieval Spanish. Tony played his first DBA at the infamous Hurricon04 and has really caught the bug! The more the merrier! Rudy Nelson and Time Portal Hobbies once again provided prize support (above and beyond the call of duty) with unpainted armies or gift certificates to the four finalists. Hurricon 05 will host slightly different DBA event. Rather than a tournament that might be intimidating to new players, a more 'fun' event will be held. The theme is "The Cross and the Crescent" with players bringing armies from a set list. The players will be divided into teams for Big Battle DBA with team and individual prizes.
