A Few Words from the Director

Hurricon 04

by Chuck Kennedy

Hi Folks,

Just a few lines to let you know that in our minds, considering everything storm and all, that HURRICON 2004 was a resounding success.

We had 258 attendees and 154 room nights at the hotel (because some of us stayed over till Monday). There was gaming in the coral ballroom until the lights went out Sunday around midnight.

Many of you had to stay away because of Hurricane Jeanne, we missed you. Some of you had to leave Saturday evening, our thoughts and prayers went with you. But in all cases we completely understand, families come first. I hope that all of you came through with a minimal amount of damage. Jeannie and I are living with a pretty blue roof on our house but otherwise ok.

Now to get on to RECON 2005.

We have two hobby wide respected rules authors who are debuting new rules sets at Recon 2005. Larry Brom, who is bringing us the brand spanking new KBAR AND BAYONET about WWII combat in the South Pacific, and Buck Surdu, who is bringing us "TO BE CONTINUED", a sequel to Gaslight, which is about they movie serials of the 20's, 30's, and 40's. Jeannie and I had a chance to play test these yesterday with Buck and they are a scream. We also have Richard Borg running a Memoir '44 tournament as well as a Flames of War Tourney. Our War Hammer  and Battle Fleet Gothic tourneys will be there. So you can see that there is lots going on already. A reminder, as well, that we are going to have 8 full sessions of gaming at Recon. All day Friday, Saturday, and until 6pm Sunday. Thursday night the Coral Ballroom will be open after 6pm for open gaming.

Game Masters- I need you to get me your game submissions via the website as soon as possible. With 8 gaming sessions, I need those of you who can to step up. For many of you it should be relatively easy, because you had to cancel your games for HURRICON. Therefore the worst part is taken care of, planning and preparation. The rest of you, come on, I need your game submissions. The cutoff date for the Chuck’s Bucks Bonus drawings is January 22, 2005.

Rooms- we need 150 room nights for Recon 2005. Folks, call the hotel and make your reservations now. Save me a few gray hairs. The cutoff for the bonus Chuck’s Bucks drawings is January 22, 2005. You can win up to $150 in Chuck Bucks just in these 2 drawings if you qualify.

WELL, ENOUGH CARPING. THANXS
