Hurricon 2001 Other Locations?

Message from Chuck Kennedy

by Chuck Kennedy

Another weekend has come to a close, another Hurricon finished and it is time to reflect. Once again, we had, despite what might have seemed insurmountable odds a great show. Certainly, it had its drawbacks. There was no restaurant save for at breakfast. There was the uncertain lottery chance of getting a room with a limited (H A! HA!) hot water supply. However, through the whole weekend I heard not one complaint a room smelling of mildew. In fact, as far as the facility is concerned I felt there was an honest effort made to accommodate our group in any way possible.

Over the last couple of years some folks have posed the suggestion that we find another location. Others have stated that they will not come back until we find another hotel. Please understand I have no problem with either of these suggestions under the following conditions:

The facility must have at least as much space as the Travelodge
It should he at least as convenient a location
The price should be within reason ie affordable.

If we cannot meet these three requirements we must raise our rates, which could become cost prohibitive to many of our members. Any member who wishes to conduct a site search for the society is welcome to do so. Simply acquire the information needed and get it to the board with rates included, of course.

Let's face it folks, we have to attempt to do the greatest good for the greatest number possible. It has always been my belief that this was exactly what we have tried to do. After having talked with the hotel staff during the convention, I believe an honest effort is being made to improve their facility, finally! Please bare with us as we work to bring you better shows in the future.
