Business

by Rhett Scott, President, HMGS-South

Greetings Gamers,

Several days ago our hotel indicated that they had a major problem and we needed to change our convention dates by a week. The new dates for Recon '01 are 4, 5 and 6 May 2001. The Board of Directors has carefully considered all of the factors surrounding changing the date and has decided to proceed with the date change as the best course of action for the club. Our future dates for Hurricon and Recon '02 are unaffected and will be published shortly.

However, the business at hand is to get the word out IMMEDIATELY to all our members and friends so that we can all change our plans.

If you have already pre-registered and or are running a game and the new dates are nogood, please contact me ASAP so that I can refund your fees and try to fill game slots. We believe there will be only a minimal disruption on the dealers and that for the most part, this is a minor inconvenience. We are forcing the hotel into concessions and will do what we can to pass that benefit on to the whole. In the meantime, we still need lots of games and only ONE person has registered with the hotel for a room over the old dates, so PLEASE start making reservations for the new dates so that we can get our room nights. You can call the Hotel Reservations line 24 hours a day at 1-800-288-4011, or 813-933-4011. Do not let the desk help tell you they can't make your reservation. Get their name and ask for a manager and then call or write me ASAP. You can also send an e-mail to Marlene, my point of contact in sales, at Sassymarlene1@aol.com. She will make your reservation and give us credit for the room.

Also, use your forms in the Rebel Yell and on-line at the web site to preregister: http://www.hmgssouth.org/recon.htm

This change can be minor if we all pull together to shrug it off and move forward. I thank each of you for your patience and assure you that we will all benefit from this change.
