Hurricon 2000

Convention Report

by Bill Moreno

This year Hurricon played host to just around 60 games ranging from Ancients to ACW to fantasy.

A Shot from the editors game of the Battle of Nashville also at Hurricon 2000.

As always there were a number of games worthy of note. I particularly enjoyed some beautiful GHQ Terrain Maker, to which I am partial myself. I have used the system at home for many years for my 10mm ACW and Micro Armor WWII figures. Bill Bass ran a Russian front WWII scenario around 1943 in the area of Kharkov using the system. I was impressed by Bill's marsh work on one comer of the board. It looked quite impassable. Although I have no idea what a Broodmaster might be, Mike Jones painted a very nice one for his Void game. His board was quite impressive too. I snapped some shots of Doc Gallagher's Running the Gauntlet, which featured some beautiful B-17's and ME 110's. Pat Condray impressed with his Blenhiem scenario and Pat Mullins with another of his nicely sculpted and diminutive 6mm boards. This time, Pat gave us Antietam. While Pat was in the eastern theatre with his 6mm, I went west with my 10mm figures. This time, I ran Nashville's first day. If things went as poorly for Hood in reality, day two would not have been necessary.

Nick Zizo ran two games of note. He gave of First Manassas (sorry Nick, the winners get to name it) and a nice Christians versus Turks scenario. Erin Tucker brought a nice Napoleonic Sail game, which Bryan Stroup shot with his digital camera for the website. Bryan also took shots of all of the games listed in this article. I brought my Mexican -American War figures to the convention and ended up running the game twice on Friday. Suprisingly, we had one US and one Mexican victory this time. I am keeping a running count. The Mexicans are now 3 8. While obviously not on the way to the playoffs, they seem to be handling themselves respectfully.

There were many other games worthy of mention here. I apologize in advance if I have left any of them out. Remind me next time and I will certainly include them in a future issue.
