Saving Private Ryan

Review

by Eric Burgess

After a glorious Historicon weekend I went and saw SPR. This is an incredible work of art. War is exposed with all of it's horrors and dry humor. I have never seen a movie like it. It makes Winter War look like a walk in the park. Veterans of war, any war, may be disturbed by the visions they see. From the first moment to the last moment SPR will have you riveted to your seat.

The use of the hand held camera to make it seem more like a documentary is simply brilliant. If you are at all squeamish I would not recommend that you see the movie. The director did not want to hide the horrors of war. I believe military recruiting will be down after this. The movie brought me to tears several times and has given me an even greater respect for the sacrifices that were made to defeat Germany.

Your emotions will be tested in SPR. Anger, rage, fright, happiness, sadness, terror ... they are all there. I highly recommend you see this movie. You will not go away disappointed.

NOTE: I wouldn't eat right before you go, and it's definitely not for children. This may even give grown ups nightmares.
