Brandywine

By Craig Ambler

Another good game from GMT's Battles of The American Revolution series. The British and their Hessian auxiliaries engage the Rebels across Brandywine Creek while a major turning operation seeks to roll up the Rebel right. Units are battalion sized and you get a good range of infantry, militia, cavalry, rifle-units and light-infantry. The map is very nicely laid out; looking like a high quality miniatures game. Play is quite detailed but without the sort of endless looping of a number of games. Even more importantly the activities on the battlefield impact on all morale. Fixing attacks are all very well, but if you lose a lot of units this will weaken the morale of your assault force. Much as in the Saratoga game a foolishly delivered attack can result is a wrecked army in remarkable short order. Something which seems (to me) to be much as it should be. Nice counters, tight product.
