Using my look into the historical landings as a framework, I've developed a proposed Allied set-up which-as nearly as practicable, within the limits of the game system--duplicates the actual historical initial Allied landings. For a bit of "color" (and in the best "Gamers' orders tradition" --although "orders" are technically not used in OCS) I've drafted some brief "orders," as well, using the names of all of the historical commanders of the actual units involved. These are not the actual historical orders! When actually conducting your landings and air operations in the game, you may wish to "fudge" here and there by a hex or two, dependent upon where your Axis opponent(s) actually places certain units. Pay particular attention to the planning of your initial air strikes. Remember also that units landing with "Amphibious Landing" are able to move one-half their movement (in Combat mode) after landing, while "Beach Assault" units cannot. Supply must be paid for Beach Assault combats; but you'll find sufficient supply available with this "optimized" OCS set-up. For the Ground Strike targets, first priorities should be Axis Reserve units which pose a threat to the landing areas. Roads leading to the landing areas should be heavily interdicted. For your naval bombardments, use your discretion to group your available assets, and use them against appropriate targets. I suggest sending Indomitable, Erebus, Roberts, the Polish DDs and all but one RN DD unit to support the British landings; use Formidable, Abercrombie, the remaining RN DD unit, the Greek DDs, and all of the US DDs to support the U.S. landings. Note to abbreviations: RA = (British) Royal Army, RN = (British) Royal Navy, RAF = (British) Royal Air Force, USA = United States Army, USN = United States Navy, USAAF = United States Army Air Force, BA= "Beach Assault" (only if there are enemy units present) For convenience, "BA" is used whenever a Beach Assault is either necessary, or recommended (for example, to get rid of relatively weak enemy units). Here again, you may wish to "fudge" a bit if necessary for the actual landing sites, according to how your opponent deploys. Where no "Beach Assault" is indicated, the units simply use the Amphibious Landing Table.
