Point Fire Table
Terrain Effects on Combat

by Dave Powell

What Do You Think?

Here we go again. I went a little overboard with my "creative rounding" last time. Bill Moody caught my mistakes and suggested that I provide you with a better rendition. Here it is...

Point Fire Table

Use modifiers from original table, roll three dice instead of two.

Firer's Attack Minus Target's Defense
Range+5 or More+4,+3+2+10 -1-2-3-4-5
2 or Less689101112 13131415
Close91010111213 13141516
Nominal111212131314 14151517
Long13141415151515 161718

Roll # or more to kill (after modifiers).

Note that shots at less than -5 are automatically ofno effect at any range and are not allowed. The above table has been slightly tailored ("creative rounding") to give a desired effect of limiting the effectiveness of poor shots at great ranges. The base probabilities are below, but have not been re-aligned as are the above. I would suggest that the above table be used or that players carefully tailor the below to be more like the above.

Special thanks to Bill Moody for suggesting changes to the table presented in OPNS 3.
