The notion of breaking news in a quarterly magazine seems pretty absurd at face valueÑand for good reason. By the time this magazine reaches your hands, the situation will certainly have developed. Many of you, especially those with modems, may already know better than I do as we go to press. All of you should keep in mind that this story will have aged. Many of you receive your hobby news mainly or wholly through printed publications. For youÑand really for all those people jacked into electronic sources as wellÑmy aim is to provide some facts, or at least avoid contributing rumors. I hope the distinction is clear enough in these pages. You will notice the conservatism with which I approach this announcement. We may all have some informed guesses about how the Avalon Hill acquisition will play out, and some of those guesses will soon be proven right or wrong. But given the currently available facts, I'm willing to risk "missing the scoop" for the sake of not jumping the gun, especially when it comes to pronouncing a game company dead. You won't read "Dewey Defeats Truman" here.
