Exclusive Book Preview

Extended Excerpts from
Brent Nosworthy's
With Musket, Cannon and Sword

Editor's Note: From time to time, we will attempt to give our readers extensive previews of significant forthcoming Napoleonic books.

Our first such selection includes accounts of two of the three battles covered in the opening chapter of Brent Nosworthy's new work. These battles illustrate by specific example the author's interest in pursuing the relationship between tactics and the overall outcomes of larger battles.

Also included are several smaller excerpts which examine some of the other interesting tactical matters more in line with the focus of the majority of the book. Nosworthy's tome represents a major release, and we want to give the readership the opportunity to sample and consider the merits of the book for themselves (also, see review in this issue).
