A very exciting, beautiful new reference series has been started by a leading Napoleonic publisher in France. This quarterly series is called La Revue Napoleon and will be published in 60 issues between now and the year 2015, each volume of this encyclopedia focusing on 200th anniversary events and personalities using materials from French archives and private collections. Note that this is not a magazine (there is no advertising), although it is available through subscription and is published four times a year. For sample pages and more details, please see the advertisement on page 2 (inside front cover of this issue). La Revue Napoleon is available in the United States and Canada exclusively from the publishers of Napoleon Journal. The International Napoleonic Society's 1999 Literary Awards were bestowed on two books: First prize of $2,500 went to Elizabeth Sparrow for Secret Service published by Boydell Press (see review on page 38); second prize of $1,500 was given to Paddy Griffith as the editor of volume IX of A History of the Peninsular War by Greenhill Books (to be reviewed in a future issue). Combined Publishing of the United States has taken over Sarpedon. In its nine years as an independent imprint, Sarpedon produced several notable Napoleonic titles, including Brent Nosworthy's With Musket, Cannon & Sword: Battle Tactics of Napoleon and His Enemies. Greenhill Books of London is now 40 years old as a military history publisher. Greenhill, the most prolific publishing house of books on Napoleonic history, was presented with an award for being the "UK Commercial Organisation Best Promoting Napoleonic History" by the Napoleonic Association which celebrated its 25th anniversary at this year's Napoleonic Fair held in London in February. Greenhill announced that it will be releasing its three volume trilogy on the 1812 campaign in Russia by Paul Britten Austin as a single 1,136 page paperback later this year. Digby Smith, compiler of the massive Napoleonic Wars Data Book, is working on another comprehensive reference work called Napoleon's Regiments: Battle Histories of the Regiments of the French Army, 1792-1815 to be published in September. It will provide thumbnail combat histories on more than 400 regiments, including the Imperial Guard, line units, foreign and colonial regiments, and auxiliary troops. Details will include battle honors awarded, mini-biographies of hundreds of officers, and a cross-referencing system to track battalions from their ancestral regiments. There will also be a section on French naval units, their actions and losses. Napoleonic Library: Reviews of selected books
