SWA members get 10% discount off books/flags when dealing direct with "Potsdam P&P," but not off P&P. The Post Office gives no discounts. Check or postal money order - or for the Brits - unused postage stamps to pay for small orders up to £ 2.00. As of 31 st July, prices for flags are (that's a sheet of four) 45p (6mm and 10mm), 55p (15mm), 65p (20 to 25mm), and 75p (30mm). Potsdam do 94 different sheets so far and do a research and design service. So contact them if they don't yet do flags you need. At the moment they cover Napoleonic, late 17th C., early 18th C. (Wars of Devolution, War of the League of Augsburg, The Glorious Revolution, Marlborough's wars and War of 1812). Also, the ACW, both sides, and British Government and Jacobite forces.

The 6mm flags to hand are Dutch Belgian Militia 1815, Dutch Volunteer Jager Companies 1814-15 (both colours), Dutch Belgian Line 1815, and standard of Carabinier regiments 1815. Also colours for Dutch Belgian Line 1815 - 2 variants, colour Dutch Belgian Jager 1815, finally colour of Regiment Orange-Nassau c. 1810-15. That's 2 sheets, A17 The Netherlands and A16 The Netherlands.

Next 15mm flags. Sheet B67 USA Wars of Independence and 1812. State flag of Maryland, color of Rhode Island Militia c. 1774-1820, color New Jersey Militia c. 1776-1815, state color Connecticut. Sheet B65 USA War of 1812. Regimental color of 2nd US Line Infantry 1812-15, regimental color of 4th US Line Infantry 1812-15, national color US Line variant 5, 1812-15, national

Sheet B33 Spain, Cavalry. King's standard Royal Carabiniers 1732-49, standard of Sevilla heavy cavalry regiment 1728-1808, regimental standard of Royal Carabiniers 1732-49, guidon of Horse Grenadiers (Granderos a Caballo) 1731-49.

Sheet A27 Spain. Colonel's color of Milan (Italian) infantry regiment 1728-1809, battalion color of 4th battalion of Royal Spanish Guards 1808-14, battalion color of lbemia (Irish) infantry 1768-1810, and colonel's color of Napoles (Italian) infantry 1738-1811. No. 2, Royal Spanish Guards color is just a plain white with coloured words whereas I and 4 are very bright and complicated. I like pretty flags myself and various of my regiments have my own heraldry as often as not, painted by me and not a patch on these professional jobs.

Sheet 28 Spain. Battalion color of Aragon infantry 1728-1809, battalion color Guadalajar-a infantry 1717-1768, battalion color Napoles (Italian) infantry 1738-1811, battalion color Irlanda (Irish) infantry 1743-1768. Ragged red saltire crosses on all of them. Guadalajara has a purple staff stripe. Irlanda has a red one and a harp in the top quadrant.

Sheet B48 Republic of Genoa. Battalion color Montenach infantry regiment 1741-1748, battalion color Battaglione Corso 1741-1748, colonel's color for most line infantry 1741-1748, battalion color for most line infantry 1741-1748.

Now the booklet - "The War of the Austrian Succession - A Wargamer's Guide - Part VIII, Uniforms of the Armies of the Italian States, 1740-48 (Piedmont-Sardinia, Genoa, Modena and the Two Sicilies), by Stephen Manley. The ISBN is 1 900688 08 5. There are 34 pages. Pages 1 to 5 deal with Genoa. Part II, pages 6-16, Sardinia. Part III, pages 17-22, Modena. Part IV, pages 23-31, The Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (Naples). General notes p. 33. Select Bibliography p. 34. This booklet is crammed with information gathered with a great deal of effort and research. If you want to build and army of the Italian States at this time, there is very little more one needs in the way of references. This book joins the others already published on Uniforms of the French Army 1740-1748, Uniforms of the British Army 1739-1748, Uniforms of the Dutch Army 1740-1748, and Uniforms of the Spanish Army 1739-1748 (2nd ed.). In progress are booklets on the Prussian, Austrian, Danish Swedish and German states and others on the flags of the combatants. Send for a list of productions. It will be worthwhile!
