Dedicated to David Barnes

by Kenn Hart

This edition is dedicated to David Barnes. His contributions to the Solo Wargamers Association and especially to Lone Warrior have been enormous and there are still some reviews etc, that we are currently processing, because he was that far ahead of the game.

For those of you who received #127 late it was because it was felt that we needed to get the information out about his death at the earliest opportunity. Trust you understand. There is a lot one can say about David but I'm sure that wherever he is, he will be organising something and getting his sleeves rolled up. Knowing him he will definitely not be resting in peace. I have expressed, on behalf of the Solo Wargamers Association, our feelings to Mary and his family when I attended the funeral. A big loss to us all.

Needless to say we now need a new Chairman and nominations to the Secretary please. There is also a need for a Boardgame Editor, because Godfrey has moved on to figure gaming (!), but will still remain a valued member of the Committee. So if you are a boardgamer and wish to let the rest of the wargaming world in on what is new etc. please contact the Editor. On the Play By Mail (PBM) front Chris is in dire need of feedback from players in the form of articles for his column. It was noticed that there are new writers coming forward on the PBM scene, which to my mind is a result of the good work done by Chris in the past.

On the personal front, I am now moving into my third and final year at Big School, the University of Ripon, and expect to be a wee bit busy until June 2000. Any assistance in the form of articles, offers to type the same up or even knock up an essay or two will be very gratefully received. I will/am booked in for the next SWA Tournament and with Chris Grice's assistance will be fielding a force in line with my beloved Ancient Chinese, using the same costly method of production.

We continue to do well on the Internet with our seemingly 'constant' Fourth position and there is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes on to ensure we maintain that very high profile amongst the other 50+ magazines. Well done to all those involved. By the time you read this I will have had a visit to Troy, worked on aging my skin by over-exposure to the sun and have my nose buried in more enlightening and 'interesting' academic books. It's about time someone ran a BA degree on Wargaming! May the die be with you and keep those articles and ideas coming.

Thanks to all Contributors and The TEAM.

Good Soloing.
