COMPUTER CORNER:

Battleground Ardennes
and Battlefield Gettysburg

from TalonSoft

by Ben Wilkins

These are the first two games from TalonSoft, a new company, and are very nice. They will be distributed in the UK by Empire Interactive. Providing you have Windows, a video card, CD-ROM and 8 megabytes of memory running them is no problem. I have used them on a 20386 DX33 and they have been fine. They are simple, but not simplistic, user friendly and very attractive.

There is nothing too startling about the design, Ardennes is not too far removed from Panzerblitz (although I understand the UK version will feature step reduction for units rather than instant kill and other goodies over the current U.S. version).

Gettysburg is somewhat similar to the old SPI monster game Terrible Swift Sword. Any wargamer should seriously consider having these as part of his collection. Both games feature multiple scenarios and will provide many hours of serious gaming. Battleground Ardennes is, I understand, due out in UK end of February and Battleground Gettysburg at end of March.
