Heroics & Ros

5mm

reviewed by Darryl Smith

Rob sent as well two figures from Heroics & Ros -- a British Highlander from the Napoleonic Wars and a British infantryman from the Revolutionary War. I have H&R infantry for my WWII and Israeli infantry, so I already know a little about this line. H&R makes a wide variety of figures, but Rob concentrates on the Napoleonics, Seven Years War, the American Revolution, Colonials, and Ancients lines. The H&R figures aren't always as cleanly cast as GHQ or CnC WW II infantry, but they are much more versatile and sturdy.

The figures that Rob sent for review are cast fairly well, but their paint jobs make them stand out. On both figures the detail is very good -- as good as some 15mm I have seen. Crossbelts, canteens, bayonet scabbards, haversacks, blanket rolls and knapsacks are all cleanly painted. The AWI figure has the tape painted on his tricorn, the Highlander (from the 92nd) has the red and white dicing painted around his bonnet, as well as having his kilt correctly painted. Rob's prices are 55 cents for foot (65 cents for Highlanders and Guards), 95 cents for mounted, and $1.20 for Mounted Officers and Mounted Guards.

As you can tell, I am happy with the figures that Rob so graciously sent. He is going to send me a sample of the Fighting Sail line as well, which I'll review in a future issue. I can recommend both the Hallmark figures as well as Rob's painting. I don't believe you can go wrong with either. I just wonder if he'll paint the rest of my Israelis for me?
