Australia is beginning to come alive with miniatures manufacturers for the colonial period. First Gerry Webb, now Greg Blake and Mike Broadbent (see his pirates after the Foundry Review). Greg Blake has offered us a chance to add some very nice figures to our Sudan Cape Wars (Xhosa), and Jungle warfare (dare I say Darkest Africa without mixing things up for you) collections. These figures are on the thinnish side, making them desireable for those wars. Some poses are standadrd, some nicely different. The running Sudan figures are quite nice and should make great additions to your collections. I hope to see more of the top-knot jungle figures they will make a great tribe of cannibals. These figures measure 28mm from bottom of foot to eyes. The sculpting detail on these figures is overall rating of superb. The necklaces and skirts of these figures is wonderful, I'm running out of adjectives here. I hope the next set of Sudan figures includes more charging or running figures (see Ron Lizorty's letter). I think my favorite figure, hard put to choose just one, would have to be JU6 holding that knife and severed head is great. I ordered some more figures for myself and the new list below bekons me to order even more, I hope you do the same. Highly Recommended!!!

Sudan

H1 Hadendowah warrior, advancing, trousers, sword, shield.
H2 Hadendowah warrior, charg Hadendowah warrior, charging, tunic, sword, shield* Very well animated pose.
H4 Hadendowah warrior, advancing, bare-chested, shield, spear raised above head, sheathed sword, shield.
H5 Hadendowah standard bearer, sheathed sword and shield slung on back, [Supply own standard].
H6 Hadendowah warrior, curved knife, shield, sheathed sword. I wish this knife was a throwing stick, but very interesting pose
A1 Ansar, charging, cap, sword [separate shield suppiled] Very nice head.
A2 Ansar, advancing, turban, shield, sheathed sword*
A3 As above but with fixed sword and sheathed knife.
A4 Ansar, turban, shield, sword* Too bad 2, 3 and 4 have the same head cuts back on the variety.
A5 Riverine Arab, advancing* Nice figure for those balding arabs.

CAPE WARS [28mm]

The first of a selection of figures representative of the native peoples involved in the Southern African Cape Wars. All codes marked * have open weapon hands. Spears and javelins are not supplied but can be easily made from wire or pins. Keep you kids from seeing these figures. CW4 looks a little strage in pse but the others are quite nice.

CW1 Xhosa warrior, knobkerrie, musket, cloak.
CW2 Xhosa warrior, musket.
CW3 Xhosa warrior, naked, raised weapon hand*
CW4 Xhosa warrior, throwing javelin, cloak*

Note that traditional dress of the Xhosa warrior was an animal hide and nothing else. Unless otherwise notes, CFM's accurately reflect this.

Ian Knight was impressed with these figures.

Jungle Drums

Just the sort of native chaps explorers would expect to confront. Codes marked * have open weapon hands. Unless noted spears are not provided. As with the other ranges this range will also grow with the passage of time. All of these figures have very nicely detailed necklaces, well done.

JU1 African warrior, round plume headdress, large axe in belt, small oblong shield*
JU2 African warrior, feathered bonnet, small axe in belt, large ribbed shield*
JU3 African warrior, piled hair, feathered headband, monkey tail kilt, knoberrie in belt, small oblong shield*
JU4 African warrior, shaved head with topknot, brandishing spear, grass kilt, large oblong shield.
JU5 As above with rifle - no shield.
JU6 As above with knife and severed head - no shield. My favorite figure!!!

THE VIETNAM WAR [20mm]

Although there is only one figure here, it is a nice one.

VC 1 Viet-Cong Main Force soldier, scarf, bush hat, chest pouches, AK47. All around review is Highly Recommended!!!!
