Probably the most earth-shaking aspect of the Bar-Lev revision is the sad fact that the game is different ... we spent months, even years playing and analyzing Bar-Lev, making minor OB revisions, perfect strategies, and watching it change as we learned more about it. In many ways, the game was a modern Afrika Korps, with most gamers familiar with it and ready to play at a moment's notice. Now, it's all changed: more historical, more accurate, and not more fun. We had a great tournament game on a great subject, and now it's gone, replaced by a historian's (rather than a gamer's) delight. The new Bar-Lev might be acceptable if we still had the old one around to play for fun, but the old Bar-Lev has been replaced, and we all lose.
