GENERAL MARKOV OFFICERS DIVISION, 1919 – 1920

The first Markov unit was a composite-officers regiment formed on 12(25) February 1918 in stanitsa Olginskoy with the 1st , 2nd and 3rd Officer battalions, naval company and a Demi-regiment from the Death (Savage?) Division of Caucasian Cavalry. The regiment was put together by the officers-volunteers arriving in Novocherkassk and to Rostov-to the-Don. The Commander appointed from his General Staff the Lieutenant-General S.L. Markov. In the time of the 1st Kuban Campaign the regiment began to be called Officer Regiment; following the campaign it was commanded by Brigadier-General A.A. Borovski. During the reorganization of the Volunteer Army in 27 May (9 June) the regiment was named 1st Officer and went into General Markov's 1st Division. Subsequent to his death from wounds the regiment on 13(26) June was renamed to the 1st Officer General Markov Regiment, and the ranks accordingly called themselves "Markovs". 27 August (9 September) 1919 the regiment reformed into two, 1st and 2nd Officer General Markov Regiments. 3(16) October was formed the 3rd Regiment, and 14(27) October all of the regiments became the General Markov Officer Division.

In November of the year 1918 the 1st Artillery Brigade was re-formed into General Markov Artillery Brigade, which went into the composition of the Markov Division. 16(29) April 1920, already in Crimea, the division was renamed to General Markov Infantry Division and regiments of her units were officially named 1st , 2nd and 3rd General Markov Infantry, and Artillery Brigade - Markovs.

On 4(17) September in division HQ, 1st , 2nd and 3rd General Markov Infantry Regiments, Markov Artillery Brigade (Headquarters, 1st , 2nd, 3rd and 4th (howitzer) Divizions), separate General Markov Engineers Company, Independent General Markov Cavalry Demi-regiment and a reserve battalion (in October this was renamed to 4th General Markov Infantry Regiment). After the evacuation from the Crimea remains of the division in Gallipoli were formed into General Markov Officer Regiment, artillery into the Markov Artillery Brigade. In 1922, after the journey to Bulgaria, they ended their existence as a military unit.
