1x 0-1-4 StatIc X NID Notes. The
Territorial Army had four army tank brigades
and two armoured brigades in 1939; since
there were not enough tanks for the regulars, the territorials didn't
have enough efther--the only ones available
would have been light tanks and obsolete 1920
model medium tanks; 2x 1-8 Cav X SC, NC
represent the unbrigaded horsed yeomanry
regiments (4 cavalry, 1 "scouts") that were
later converted to artillery regiments; 1x 1-8
Mtn Cav II LS represents the remaining
yeomanry regiment formed as "scouts," mixed
infantry and mounted troops; 1x 2-8 Mot X 30
represents the 1st Support Group which was
in existence at this time, but still forming and
not equipped; its two Royal Horse Artillery
units were detached to the B.E.F.; 1x 2-8 Inf X
30 was originally formed for the Norwegian
campaign, it was committed (and lost) at
Calais; 2x 0-1-4 Tank II 7 RT, 8 RT are the
remaining battalions of 1st Army Tank Brigade;
there were only enough infantry tanks to equip
4th Royal Tank Regiment. 2x 3-8 Inf X 20 Gds,
24 Gds represent the four guards battalions
stationed in London at this time; 1x 2-6 Inf X 3 L
has four T.A. battalions of the King's Royal
Rifle Corps and The Rif le Brigade, these later
became motor battalions in armoured divisions;
1x 2-3-6 MG X had four T.A. machinegun
battalions, two of which eventually went to
France.
