Defense in Depth

Developer's Notes

By Rick Gayler

Here are some additional rules for use with this scenario, along with a few miscellaneous items.

A. River Flotillas

River flotillas (RFs) may be added to this scenario, using the RF rules (Rule 28E) from SE with the following modifications:

  • The number at the bottom of a RF counter is its artillery strength, and the number in the upper lefthand corner its AA strength.
  • Ignore all references in the rules to naval transport; no naval transport is allowed in this scenario.
  • RF units may operate only on rivers; they may not enter non-river coastal hexes or all-sea hexes. RF units may only operate in Poland.
  • The Wisla flotilla is sunk with one hit. If the Pinska flotilla suffers a hit, flip it over to its "1" artillery strength side. A second hit on the Pinska flotilla sinks it.

B. German Capture of Polish Mobilization Areas

If the German player owns all Polish mobilization cities in a Corps District at the start of a Polish initial phase, all reinforcements scheduled to appear in that Corps District are eliminated.

C. Disbanding

Ignore mention of disbanding in the mobilization schedule; it is not used when playing this scenario.

D. Mobilization Map and Research Credit

A map showing the various Polish Corps Districts is provided with this scenario as a guide for players. Thanks to John Gee for providing GR/D with this map. Mr. Gee also contributed much of the research used to create the Polish Mobilization Schedule.
