MORE AMERICANS More? You want more? Last issue's column on the U.S. ground order of battle in Europa wasn't enough? Well, surprise, I do have more. Rounding off last issue's ground OB, here's the listing of corps markers for the U.S. Army:
1 x Abn XXX HQ (18) And, what about the air force? The following is the draft Europa air order of battle for all U.S. air assets. I want to thank Paul Dunigan for his tireless efforts in assembling the information that went into this OB. Draft Europa Air Order of Battle: U.S.A. Notes: 1. Abbreviations: USAAF: U.S. Army Air Force, USN: U.S. Navy, EAME: Europe-Africa-Middle East (the Army's term for this theater). 2. The USAAF occasionally assigned different series letters to what was essentially the same aircraft. Often the only difference was that a different factory was producing the same model. Each of these cases is shown as one model, not two, in OB: A-20G covers A-20Gs and A-201-1s, A-20J for Js and Ks, B-24D for Ds and Es, B-25C for Cs and Ds, B-26B for Bs and Cs, P-38D for Ds and Gs, P-51 B for Bs and Cs, and P-51 D for Ds and Ks. Also, the military version of the DC-3 airliner got two different main designations: C-47 and C-53. In theory, the C-47 flew freight and the C-53 flew passengors, but this mattered little in practice and both are grouped under C-47. 3. In addition to its official designation, each aircraft model had a popular name:
A-20 Havoc B-26 Marauder P-40 Warhawk A-26 Invader C-46 Commando P-47 Thunderbolt A-36 (Mustang)*
C-47 Skytrain P-51 Mustang B-17 Flying Fortress CG-4 Hadrian P-61 Black Widow B-24 Liberator P-38 Lightning P-80 Shooting Star B-25 Mitchell P-39 Airacobra USN:
