Figure 13-14
By C. A. Norman
FIGURE 13: Colonel, General Staff of the 1st Class, Undress, c.1866-70: This kepi is even more sloppily coloured, the top is dark blue, the band appears to be white with a touch of gold at the rear overlapping onto the chin-strap. Extrapolating from other figures I would conjecture the band to be circled by a wide gold lace with white piping above and on the vertical seams, national cockade on the front and gold lace chin-strap. Plain blue tunic of a non-standard cut, virtually a frock coat with gilt buttons, gold cuff lace and collar device, white cotton or linen waistcoat and trousers. FIGURE 14: Enseigne (Alferes) of the Battalion of Engineers, Service Dress, c.1865-70: Dark blue kepi with black band, national cockade on the front, dark blue tunic, cuffs and epaulet loops, black collar (velvet), cuff flaps and cuff piping, gilt buttons, gold cuff lace and "tower" on the collar (identical to the Corps of Engineers). Dark blue trousers, black waist-belt and holster, red waist-sash with gold lace knots and red tassels, the white gloves are looped through the black sabre-knot. Uniform Plates
