28. COLOURS I think it is entirely probable that Byerly's were yellow with the several companies distinguished by varying numbers of red crosses. Percy's colours appear to have been white bearing silver crescents. I know that this is contrary to normal heraldic practice but may perhaps be explained by the fact that Percy's and Pinchbeck's (later Bard's) were originally a single large unit with white colours. This unit being broken up on its arrival at Oxford to provide Lord Percy with his own regiment (I intend to discuss this theory in a future article on Percy's foot).
