I have been reading the Scots armies series by Stuart Reid, in particular "The Battle of Kilsyth, 1645". I am a wargamer and am building up an army of Covenanter in this period and are writing to ask if you could help me with my research. In your book about Kilsyth, you mention Scottish "Redcoat" regiments. I am using the usual Covenanters figures. To recreate a redcoat regiment would these figures still be suitable or did the redcoats have a different cut of uniform to that of the Covenanter armies? Assuming the cut was the usual one, would I be right in assuming that both the jacket and breeches would be red or would the breeches be a differant colour? (Hodden gray?). Again on the subject of uniforms, I am intrested in recreating troops in the Ministers Regiment. I seem to recall reading that this regiment was dressed in black, possible clerical garb. Could you confirm this? Would there bonnets still be blue? If you could help me I would be very grateful. More Queries
