A while ago I was reading some Swedish material having to do with the Thirty Years War and of all places found somthing to do with the ECW. When the situation in England began to point toward civil war at the close of the 1630's, many of the scot officers in swedish service began to return home. A number of these retiring received gifts in the way of arms. Lod Hamilton received 6 cannon in 1635, while Colonel Lumsden was presented with a number of muskets and cuirasses in 1640, and Alexander Leslie recieved 2000 muskets in 1638 and a further 2000 along with a large quanty of shot in 1645. As it points out, a number of arms used in the Scots portion of the war were of Swedish manufacture which I thought was rather interseting. The same souce also mentions that while Montrose was in Sweden negotiating the purchase of warships from the Crown, a large amount of arms was delivered to him from the Crown armouries in Stockholm and Kalmar in early January of 1650 which inculded "3000 infantry swords, 820 pairs of pistols, 2000 sets of cavlry harness, 30 pikes, 20 drums and large quantities of powder and shot." In addition, he had 3 standards made in Gothenburg (Sweden). He began his journey back on January 10, 1650 with the frigate he had purchased from the Swedish Crown and 2 merchantmen, one with the arms and the other with 200 Danish fighting men he had enlisted. He later lost one of the merchantmen in a storm during march. However it dose not say whether it was that with the soldiers, or the arms. I thought the arms statistics might be of intesest. I can't remember the title, but the English language version is Scots in Sweden by J. Berg.
