URUGUAYUruguay's contribution to the Allied war effort was very small, estimates ranging from 1800 to around 4000 men. Of course at this time Uruguay was just emerging from a devastating civil war and was unable to support any kind of foreign war effort. Apparently at one time or another elements of three infantry battalions and three small cavalry regiments saw service. Unfortunately, I have no good information on their uniforms. NAVAL ASPECTSThe naval aspects of the Paraguayan War were only briefly touched upon in this article; to have included them would require a lengthy article in its own right. For now, suffice it to say that for wargarnes any Civil War rules clealingwith riverwarfare can be used. indeed the river campaigns below Humaita bear an uncanny resemblance to our own Civil War on the Mississippi River. This article has been but a brief introduction to a generally neglected, but fascinating period of military history. If it has aroused anyone's interest then it has performed its purpose. Probably by the time it is published, Freikorps 15 will have introduced a series of f igures on the war as well as one of their excellent campaign booklets. SOURCESParticular thanks is given to Dave Allsop of Freikorps15, for his assistance in providing information on unit organization and uniforms as well as making available hard-to-find source material. Without his help this article could not have been written. Barroso, Gustavo & Rodriguez, Jose: Uniformes do Exercito Brasileiro, Servico Geografico do
