Slingshot (Published Bimonthly) write for membership information to Ian Smith, 10 Sussex Close, Boreham, Chelmsford Essex, England CM3 3ED. My friendly editor reminded me that it has been a considerable time since Slingshot has been mentioned in these pages. I initially denied it, but on checking my back issues I find that he is correct. This has been a serious omission. Slingshot (the journal of the Society of Ancients) is one of the most influential publications in the hobby. Anyone with even a passing interest in Ancient Wargaming, whether using the WRG ruleset or some other, should not be without the regular delivery of this magazine. Issue #115 contains the usual extensive letters section on rules and research among other topics, several battle reports and a couple of review columns. Of particular interest to American gamers is the inclusion of a review section covering publications and figures released in America. Historical research is never neglected and this issue has a lengthy article on the history and organization of the Mitannian Empire including drawings and descriptions of its army's armour and equipment. Other historical articles include part 3 of a review of the evolution of the Roman Legion, part 1 of a series of articles on English archery of the longbow period, and a description of Roman crossbows. These are only a selection of the contents of this particular issue. Needless to say, Slingshot is highly recommended for all ancient gamers or those with an interest in the period.
