THE BEST OF BOARD WARGAMING is a new book by Nicholas Palmer, author of THE COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO BOARD WARGAMING. It begins with chapters describing general categories of games (operational, monster sized, science fiction) and a discussion of realism. The rest of the book, (132 of 188 pages) is dedicated to brief reviews and ratings of over 100 games. The selection of games is by no means complete. The pre-Twentieth Century periods seem poorly represented: No mention is made whatsoever of the suitability of different games as bases for miniatures campaigns. The book is published hardbound by Hippocrene Books, Inc. for $16.95. The publishers would have done better to have chosen a lower priced format and a more comprehensive selection of games. The current edition cannot be recommended even for those whose primary interest is in board games. More Reviews
