The book starts with a fascinating history of the Miniature Wargaming hobby that will be an eye opener even to the most experienced old timer. In this alone, it is a perfect counter to certain authors who believe that wargaming really started with Tactics II after a long hiatus from H.G. Wells! The book includes three complete sets of rules: Nineteenth Century. with the report of a battle fought with the rules; Twentieth Century skirmish rules; and Midieval rules. At today's prices, these rules alone are worth the cost of the book - simple and straight forward. A large section is given over to detailed clear explanation of the various parts of any miniatures rules, their problems and how, perhaps, best to write them. Especially good is the discussion of scale. The book is such a great introduction to the hobby that every Miniature gamer should have a copy to lend his friends who want to know "what the hell he is doing with all those 'soy' soldiers?" I especially recommend that each war game club have copies to give or sell "perhaps at a subsidized price) or loan to newcomers to the hobby who they wish to enter. Highly recommended. Available for $19.95 from Hipocrene Books, 171 Madison Ave., NY, NY 10016. More Reviews
