Santa Anna Skirmish Rules

These are the rules used by Pete Panzieri in his Alamo game - it will be a major attraction at historicon this year - is now published. You can order a copy from his website athttp://users.nac.net/ jthomas/Jodie/JodiePress/JodiePress.html.

American BattleLines is a new rule set from Old Dominion Game Works intended to cover all the wars fought in North America from 1775 to 1865. Focussed on the battalion and regimental level and advertised as being suitable for any scale, it is available for $29.95 at https://www.odgw.com.

Battle Honors new releases in 25 mm for WWII include German paratroopers, Wehrmacht, Afrika Korps, Russians, Chindits,. and American Marine raiders. For most of these there are two rifle packs and a couple of weapons packs, although some have additional specialty packs. Cannon Fodder has released the Yangtze River Patrol in 28 mm, with two US Naval Officers, sailors with rifle and BAR, and a CPO. The first Chinese figures are a warlord officer and an open-handed bodyguard. They have also added 12 figures, mostly personalities, to their Alamo line. P.O. Day of Battle II, a set of rules for European battles from AD 1050 to 1100, is available from Chris Parker. Intended for 25mm figures, the rules are printed on three-ring binder stock, and include eight armies, and a set of figure counters for a quick test game. Dixon has some new 25 mm figures out. For the American Revolution there are two British Grenadiers, an American officer, 6 pdr gun with American crew, team, limber, and horses, and dismounted dragoons for both sides. The Wild West line continues to expand, with ten dismounted banditos and three Mexican peasants.

Essex has turned out another bunch of 15mm figures. Those for the Dark Ages in Western Europe inlcude assorted heavy cavalry, Carolingian style heavy cavalry, medium spearmen, and archers. In the Ancients group are Indian swordsmen and Later Saka horse, while new Biblicals include Amorite/Caananite axemen, Libyan swordsmen, and Later New Kingdom Egyptian generals, chariots, dismounted chariot crews, mounted javelins, light archers, Marine spearmen, heavy axemen, heavy spearmen, and command, Saite Egyptian spearman, and Kushite Egyptian spearmen, javelins, archers, and slingers. The Face of Battle, a set of WW2 Skirmish Miniatures Rules from Meramic Enterprises, has been released in a Light Plus Edition. This version adds vehicle rules to the free Light Edition available for download. The game includes more than 100 pp of rules, 20+ charts, counters, cards, a sample of German and Russian vehicles, and a coupon for $5 off the Full Edition, expected to be published this fall. GHQ has a scattering of new items. In 1:2400, there is the modern Wasp, a USMC Amphibious Assault Carrier, and the WWII CA Wichita. In 1:1200, there is the 38-gun frigate HMS Shannon. On shore, we have, in 1/285, a modern US Infantry weapons pack, T-90 Russian MBT, German Leopard II A6, and an Egyptian Sherman with AMX turret. For WWII there is a French 75 mm field gun model 36 with prime mover, British 17 pdr. AT gun with Crusader prime mover, and a German Stahlwagen. All these can fight around a selection of 8 new townhouse castings.

Mark Fenlon Miniatures produces 28mm ACW figures. Union cavalry & cavalry command, and a “States Rights” vignette have recently been released. Merrimack Miniatures has released a new Wild West grouping. It has two buildings with lift off roofs and interior detail, a backdrop for the corral, an outhouse, a barrel and ten figures. JR Miniatures has a whole batch of new 1/285 buildings, designed for WWII on Eastern and Western fronts. There are buildings and groups of buildings from Normandy, Belgium, Paris, Germany, and the Soviet Union. These include a wide variety, from collective farms and thatch houses to 6-story apartment buildings and the Red October tractor factory. There is also a pontoon bridge and a new hedge row set.

Old Glory, as always, has a pile of new releases, beginning with three sizes of stockade forts for the French and Indian War, plus assorted bits and pieces, in 25 mm. Also in 25 mm is a new line of Cossack Wars figures with some 18 packs designed for skirmish games. The Polish Commonwealth is the first part of the Eastern Renaissance line to be released, with 14 packs ranging from winged hussars to Haiduk infantry, Tatar cavalry, and German mercenaries. The Ottomans get new packs of Renaissance archers and spearmen, Janissary musketeers, and some later Spahis with pistols. Old Glory has also started producing bags of separate pikes, spears, and javelins.

The final entry in 25 mm is a Mexican-American naval landing party, gun crew, and longboat with either sailors or marines as crew.

The new 15mm Ancients offerings include 11 packs of Arab conquest troops, 22 of Byzantines from a variety of periods from the 7th to 13th centuries, nine packs of Hittites, a dozen of New Kingdom Egyptians, and more modest selections of Libyans, Sea People, Syrian City States, Nubians, Russians, and Slavs.

For WWII, also in 15mm, there are several Sheman versions with applique armor, M26 Pershing, British A9, A10, and A13 tanks, German Panzer 1B command variants, an Opel Maultier, and an RSO tractor.

Osprey continues to churn out an unending stream of their books. New volumes include, in the Vanguard series, American Civil War Artillery 1861-1865 (1) and Jagdpanzer 38 ‘Hetzer’ 1944-45; in the Elite series, Napoleon’s Commanders (1) and Privateers and Pirates 1730-1830; in the Campaign series, Louisbourg 1758, Tobruk 1941, Iwo Jima 1945, Edgehill 1642, Corunna 1809, Adrianople 378, The Armada Campaign 1588, and Lutzen and Bautzen 1813. In the Men-at-Arms series, there are The Moors - The Islamic West 7th-15th Centuries AD, The Italian Army 1940-45 (2), The US Army in World War II (3) - North-West Europe, British Air Forces 1914-1918 (2), The United States Army 1783-1811, The Italian Army 1940-45 (3), and The British Army 1939-45(1) - North West Europe. In the Warrior series, we have the U.S. Paratrooper 1941-1945, Greek Hoplite 480-323 BC, Ashigaru 1467-1649, Celtic Warrior 200BC - AD 100,and Union Infantry 1861-1865. Finally, in the Order of Battle Series there are two books on the Ardennes offensive, Southern Sector.

Outpost Wargame Services has released a number of new figures in their 15 mm Central Asiatic Turks Range for the late 6th century. These include javelins, archers, mounted archers, Western heavy cavalry, and armored cavalry, , Eastern(Uighur) heavy cavalry and armoured cavalry and mounted command. Reviresco has released, all in 28 mm, a British 18 pdr. gun on pintle mount with three sailors, Thornycroft Type J lorry, with or without a 13 pdr. Mk 3 AA gun, Anglo-Irish War civilians, and a free paper kit of a 1928 Stinson SM-1 airliner. There are also two kits of bridge parts for building gunboats. Quality Casting has started in on a new series of post-WWII infantry, a bit bigger (they say 1-2mm) and more detailed than the previous 15mm figures. The Israelis have been out for some time, and they have now added Soviet platoon, command, Sagger team, gun crew, mortar crew, and vehicle rider packs. There are also Egyptian (ca 1973) and PLO infantry figures. They have not abandoned WWII, with a new Soviet M1944 100mm towed antitank gun, and German Sdkfz 250 halftracks in /1 neu, /8 neu (7.5 cm), and /9 neu (2cm turret) versions. The Sword and the Flame: The third quarter’s issue (nos. 13-18) of Scenario Portfolio 2000 is out. The Portfolio is an annual subscription to a growing collection of scenarios for TSATF games, straight from Larry Brom. Each scenario has a briefing sheet for each side and two maps of the tabletop printed on card stock. The maps are effectively drawn in perspective with terrain and set-on callouts.
