"The art of war is ample enough. Find out where your enemy is. Get at him as soon as you can. Strike at him as hard as you can, and keep moving on." This issue's simulation review is somewhat ambitious. I intend to examine four Civil War simulations by companies that also publish wargaming magazines. An examination of these four simulations, combined with last issue's view, should give us a solid foundation from which to study future simulations. Further, it should establish where "The State of the Art" is in relationship to three "professional" outlets. It is my feeling and assumption that the magazines with which these four simulations are associated maintain distinct and individual philosophical viewpoints. This in turn influences the direction of the wargaming hobby as a whole. Our awareness of this is important for a clearer understanding of the prejudices and strong points of the "institutions" within the hobby. The Reviews
