The review column in this issue and the following issue will be unusual in that three simulations will be reviewed in each column. By taking a random selection of simulations in two specific fields a base can be established, which can then give a better perspective for examining simulations in the future. Three desert simulations have been chosen. All three have been done by different companies who were unaware of each other's efforts.
