Battle of Munda 45BC
Ancients Scenario

by Jon Compton

1. Use the rules for Thapsos and the counters provided in GameFix #1. Place the map provided in this issue so that the word "ANCIENTS" and the mapboard letter "E" are at the top. Treat the top edge as north. Use the letters and numbers along the map edge to locate particular hexes. Example: The southern bridge connects hexes E-9 and F-9- the northern bridge connects Q-11 and Q-12.

2. Setup: Stacking limits cannot be violated during placement. No unit can set up adjacent to any enemy units. Panic level is 20 for both sides.

Pompeian setup (tan): Place 8 fort markers in a straight line running northeast from G-3 to N-7, inclusive. Place one 4-2 on top of each fort in 1-4, J-5, K-5, and L-6. Each of the other four forts receives one 2-1. Place a 2-1 on each flank (G-4, M-7), and five more 2-1's plus a leader on any hexes adjacent to and east of the fort line. Place a 2-6 cavalry in F-4 and N-8.

Caesarian setup (red): Place six 4-2's next to one another, forming a line anywhere between G- 1 and 0-5. Place a 2B3 and a 1-2 adjacent to the 4-2 on each end of the line. Place a 2-6 adjacent to a 2B3 or 1-2. Place three more 2-1's in any hexes west of the line of 4-2s.

3. Game Length: 6 turns.

4. Special Rules:

a. Forts represent high ground occupied and prepared by the Pompeians. Ignore the normal fort rules. Any Caesarian fire or melee attack on a unit in a fort hex is shifted one column left.

b. The Caesarian 1-2's and Pompeian 2- 1s, are treated as 2-2's (1-2s when disordered).

c. Each Caesarian 4-2 infantry unit must move adjacent to and perform melee against a Pompeian unit on turn 1.

d. Pompeian charge: At the beginning of any Pompeian player turn, place both tan 6-3 elephant units on the map. Each unit must be placed on top of any 4-2 or 2-1 unit. A 6-3 that violates stacking limits at the end of the movement phase is eliminated. Remove any surviving 6-3 from the map at the end of the player turn. Eliminated or removed 6-3's do not count toward the Panic Level.

e. Optional zones of control rules are recommended.
