Computer Game

For someone who has to admit that he is not too computer literate, being given a new game to review was rather daunting. However, I really did enjoy ZuluWar. Designed for Windows, it can run on 3.1 and Windows 95 and is incredibly simple to install. That done you are presented with the chance to refight the whole of the Zulu War of 1879. You will however be disappointed if you expect to see 3D images of warriors and redcoats engaged in desperate hand to hand combat. The game is of a strategic nature and is played on the same principal as the hexagonal grid boardgames. That said, I still found it most enjoyable. There are a number of individual mini-scenarios which can be played in a relatively short time span to get you familiar with the game mechanics before progressing to a refight of the whole Zulu War, which takes quite a few hours. The mini-scenarios are designed around each of Chelmsford's invading columns. The game designers have done their homework which gives a fairly accurate historical angle and the games allow the player to play an opponent or the computer. There are also a number of options that allow the player to enhance the game. Ambushes, sieges, entrenchment, supply, hidden movement, scouting and Zulu guerrilla tactics are all available. I also found useful the hints and tips for players, at the back of the game booklet, which help you develop your tactics. All in all I enjoyed playing the game, it was fun. More Reviews
