Wargamer's Digest

Magazine Review

by George Phillies

We recently received a copy of "Wargamer's Digest" (McCoy Publishing Enterprises 2158 Allen Blvd., Middleton, Wis 53562. This is a 36-page pulp paper professional quality magazine. Since it is reaching wide newsstand/hobby shop distribution (I am told that it is being handled by the same group that handles the country's two largest model RR magazines). Wargamer's Digest stands a good chance of becoming the most important wargaming magazine in the country (ahead of the General and Moves in the relatively near future.

Orientation is primarily towards miniatures; much of the material is of general interest, though. Recent Articles include "The Strategic Map Game and How It Is Fought", "Battle on Narrow Fronts in Panzer Warfare" (which appears to be drawn from or from the same sources as modern Isreali military doctrine) "Airpower in the Blitzkrieg", and "The Battle of Vienna in Mini-Tanks" (a battle report).

There is a very substantial amount of advertising (as we said, this is a commercial venture), although less dominant than in S&T (A lot of it is split into pieces of pages). I noted advertisements from board game companies: miniatures companies, militaria dealers, hobby stores, and hobby and paint equipment.
