President The Strategy Gaming Society is the best kept secret in the hobby. That has to change. Several companies make discounts available to our members. These can save members enough money on game purchases that membership dues are quickly recovered. For example, Pacific Rim's latest release “Iron Tide: Panzers in the Ardennes” has a list price of $75 (boxed) and $60 (ziplock). The twenty per cent discount SGS members receive from Pacific Rim Publishing amounts to fifteen dollars off of the boxed version of the game. Information on which companies offer members discounts and their contact information appears elsewhere in the issue. Please patronize the good folks who are going out of their way to help the society. Rather a short column this month as tax pre-paration and Easter has devoured most of my time. As always, if there is any issue that you want to bring to the attention of the President, please do not hesitate to contact me. I promise to give all such issues my best possible efforts. Discounts for SGS Members Pacific Rim www.justplain.com: 20% on direct orders--just say that you belong to the SGS.
Treasurer We have modestly more than $3300 in the Treasury, with so far as I know no significant debts to anyone. Our direct costs on printing and mailing -S- consume more or less all of our dues income. Editor As always, your contributions to Strategist will be most appreciated. I do not get to most conventions, club meetings, etc.; news of the hobby from around the country and articles on game strategy will be most appreciated. New Gamer's Choice Awards Fellow SGSers. As you are now aware (from our last newsletter), the former SGS Awards chairman has taken the former Gamer's Choice Awards committee and gone private, renaming the awards the International Gamer's Awards. President Kramer has asked me to reconstitute the our Gamer's Choice Awards, since the title remained with the SGS. And I want to get you involved in the process. Game Collector's Guild Pimper's All the World's Wargames (which is, of course, not a committee) I am working on the final audit for the next issue of our list of board wargames, “Pimper's All the World's Wargames”, which has always been sold through the SGS. This will be Volume 5. Volume 1 is Jeff Pimper's; we sell it for him in exchange for a certain quid pro quo. Volumes 2-4 and the Volume 1 addenda were variously compiled by George Phillies and the Bromley brothers. I believe I have perhaps identified the battle covered by the mystery game of Volume 4, whose contents feature samurai warriors, Colonel Custer's lookalike, and steam-powered ironclad warships-in Japanese only. Convention Advisory Board Guide The prior (1977) Convention Running Guide has been electronically retyped, thanks to the efforts of our heroic typist volunteers and is in line as a project after the 1995-1999 Guide is issued. ...
