Game Table Online

New Service

by Joe Minton

Writes about his online firm's progress:

The Business Model

The business model behind GameTable Online is very simple. It is designed to benefit both players and publishers while providing the income necessary to support our high quality gaming service. Players subscribe to the site for $10/month. This allows them to play every game available as often as they'd like; and the price remains the same as we add game after game after game. We measure the playtime spent with each game, and then split 25% of the net receipts of the site (or 10% of the gross if higher) between the publishers based on the time spent with their games. GameTable Online pays all of the costs associated with implementing and supporting the games - which is usually over $75,000 per game. Our motto here is "everything is on the table" - including the business model.

Launch Date is Set

May 1st is our launch date - we're just under a month away! A tremendous amount of effort and passion from a dozen people has gone into building GameTable Online, and we are thrilled to be this close to 'flipping the switch'. Feedback continues to be extremely positive and we look forward to fulfilling our mission of supporting and growing the strategy gaming market.

Our online advertising will begin to hit later in April and our print advertising is scheduled to coincide with the convention season. We have a booth lined up for Origins in June and for Gen Con in July.

We'll be running a special for folks who sign up early, and we'll give everyone who joins their first month completely risk free. Drakon should be ready for beta testing by members in May with IgelArgern coming soon thereafter.

We've also just taken the wraps off our first Overthrone screen shot (see link below) and will have one coming next month for Kill Dr. Lucky. We expect to be running officially sanctioned Nuclear War and Cosmic Wimpout tournaments soon after launch. GameTable Online is ready for the fun!

Beta Testing Update

GameTable Online has over 700 beta testers right now and an active gaming forum. Gamers are playing on the site using Windows, Macs, Linux and Solaris. We have folks enjoying the same gameplay experience on dial-up and broadband. We have players in the Americas, Europe, Australia and Asia. Our challenge is to make it easy to find opponents until we have enough gamers such that there is always someone around to play with - and we're working on it. There are a lot of publishers playing games on the site; I urge you to join them if you haven't taken a look yet. We'd be happy to organize some publisher vs. publisher events!

GAMA Store Directory

At the GAMA Tradeshow we reached an agreement with GAMA to host their retailer database and store finder. GameTable Online is going to fund the huge effort of updating GAMA's old listing and to include more information for each store, such as the types of products stocked. You can already search for conventions by distance on the site, and we'll add the ability to search for stores. Retailers are the lynchpin of our industry and we want to support them! We'll let you know more about this initiative, which should benefit the entire industry, as the plans firm up.
