Speaking of which--just in case anyone's interested in trying a computer wargame--The Ardennes Offensive is available as a free download at www.ssgus.com. I downloaded it a few days ago, then read the rules manual and played three scenarios yesterday (I was home with a cold). This game is comparable to Battle of the Bulge. It looks and feels just like a real, good, old-fashioned, hex-grid board wargame (except for the details of the computer interface, of course). I had no problem with the download or with gameplay. The manual is readable (though missing its diagrams), and there's a tutorial to walk you through the mechanics. The map is kinda dark, but you get used to it. The only downside I discovered is that when you quit out of the game, you have to sit through a couple ads that linger on your screen for a few seconds. Of course, as SSG will tell you, the reason it's being offered as freeware is that it's their worst-selling game ever. But as far as I can tell from playing it yesterday, that just means you have to be a wargamer to like it. So far, I think it's a great game.
