Correction

At the start of the year, we ran Lou Coatney’s excellent Leyte Gulf Naval Chess game. http://lcoat.tripod.com/leytpage.htm for those of you who have joined since.

I made a slight editing error. I thought I had two sets of files for the maps and units I ran in the February issue, to which Lou then sent to me paper duplicates. Ummh, no. The second set of files were the charts. I gather most of you simply went to his web site for them. However, to correct the record, the current issue will include the charts I should have printed earlier.

Editorial

As I remarked earlier in the year, my first half year was rather busy. Running for editor was not my highest priority, but I did do it. Now certain events are past, and I expect to have rather more time for editing Strategist. This issue is the first fruits of that effort, with a considerably wider range of articles than in the past. I hope that you enjoy what you find here.

Treasury

Yes, we have a Treasury. $1.06 in interest, and a donation of $5.46 in stamps by Membership Secretary Jeff Tibbetts. Expenses for the last issue included $120 in printing and $73 in postage (the number is large because foreign postage is expensive). We have $3350 in the bank, and owe $193 to the Editor.

Volunteers

We have a number of volunteers. We need more. However, let me pause to acknowledge unsung hero Scott Woodard, 1730 N Evergreen, Burbank CA 91505) who is maintaining the SGS contact list on the web.

Directorate Newsletter

The Directorate Newsletter is the administrative organ of the SGS. It is available to any interested member of the Society at cost directly from the Vice President. The latest issue is dated 10 July 2002 and has a postpaid price of $2 for members in the US, $2.6-0 for those in Canada and Mexico, and $3(US) for those living elsewhere.
