Elections are proceeding for the National Officers and Regional Directors. To date, nominations have been received for President: Greg Schloesser; Vice President: George Phillies; Membership Secretary-Richard Gutenkunst; Treasurer: George Phillies; Editor: Brian Train; Regional Directors: Region 1: Paul Meyer; Region 7: Andy York; Region 9: Mark Kramer; Region 11: John Kula. Statement of Greg Schloesser, Candidate for President: It is with great excitement that I accept the nomination for President of the Strategy Gaming Society. I firmly believe that our hobby needs a central organization which is strong and active to unite gamers of all types under one banner. The SGS is just that organization. After studying the existing Constitution and By-Laws, I see great potential and possibilities for the various programs which are called for. My plans are to activate many of these programs and committees, which can only help spread the word of gaming and strengthen both our hobby and the SGS. I will spell these plans out in greater detail over the next few months. In the meantime, I wish to thank George Phillies, a founder of the SGS, for his trust, confidence and encouragement. I look forward to an active, energetic and strong term as President of our organization. Endorsement by George Phillies: Greg Schloesser will bring us the vigor, initiative, and hard work we need to advance the SGS into the Third Millenium. Statement of George Phillies, Candidate for Vice President and Treasurer. Last year, I said that if elected I would serve as Editor, and maintain our Society's financial records. I did that. This year, I promise that if elected you will see the regular financial reports you deserve, and through my work as Vice President you will see an SGS Directorate brought to new life and vigor. The SGS Regional Directors and National Officers are the backbone of the Society, on which all our other efforts rest. I will do my best to promote national recognition and recruitment for our society. Statement of Mark Kramer, Candidate for Regional Director, Region 9: The sale of Avalon Hill has made the West Coast the de facto center of the board wargaming industry. Whether this is a good thing remains to be seen. Just as 80% of all jobs west of Denver are within a two hours drive of Interstate 5, so, I believe, are the bulk of the Region's remaining board gamers and any potential recruits into the Hobby. I believe that the Society is the institution best poised to unite and serve this large and diverse Region. If entrusted with the office of Regional Director for Region Nine, I will take the following steps to increase the society's presence in this important and historically under-rated Region: Through the membership of the Region and my own modest hobby contacts, I will print and post Society-supplied recruitment materials to any local club or convention or retailer within the Region. Any tournament I sponsor or run at local conventions will be done in the name of the Society and will furnish prizes of Society memberships either for tournaments or raffle. I will make diligent efforts to persuade others within the Region to make similar evangelical gestures. Finally, I will print, publish, and post to the Regional membership a small supplementary newsletter containing any items pertinent to the Region. I will print this at least once a year. With the exception of Society-Supplied artwork for fliers, I will do all of the above at my own cost and my activities will not impact the Society's coffers. Thank you for your consideration. Endorsement for Mark Kramer by George Phillies: Mark Kramer's objectives represent everything that a good Director should be doing for the Society. The Ballot is on Page 11. You may vote for all National Officers, and for the Regional Director of your Region. What are the Regions? All addresses outside the United States, including US APO/FPO addresses, are in Region 11. Within the United States, the Region is identified by the first digit of the ZIP code, except there is no Region “0”. The six states of New England are Region 10. All New Jersey and New York addresses are in Region 1. In casting your vote, you may circle the name of a candidate to vote for that candidate, vote “No”, or write in a candidate by name. Because the post of Election Officer is vacant, Richard Gutenkunst (address on Ballot 1) will count all votes except for the post of Membership Secretary, while George Phillies (address on Ballot 2) will count all votes for the post of Membership Secretary.
