The game itself is very fluid and a perfect strategy is a difficult one to master. First off, are you playing the original set or any of the expansions since the strategies are slightly different. One that is basic to both versions is to attempt to control the play in the 2nd, 5th & 8th round by being the lowest player to play. The will allow you to go first in following round 3, 6, & 9 by playing a high power/action card. The next play after 3, 6 & 9 is a scoring round and by going first you have the opportunity to control the King and solidify a high scoring region. It will also apply pressure to the other existing caballeros in surrounding regions (especially if their Grande is in a weaker position). Again other strategies are dependant on the version you are playing. Hopefully, this is one that you may not have seen yourself. Another strategy is to neutralize your opponents Grande by placing an equal number of (if not more) caballeros in that region. The games are usually close and this strategy done in three scoring rounds will lose 6 points for your opponents and still give you a foothold in that particular region.
