I will agree that Advanced Civilization and "Basic" Civilization are two different games. They play differently and they require different strategies to win the game. Though you say "Advanced Civilization is inferior," I disagree. The types of games that I prefer to play are social games. The increase of tradable calamities and the increase emphasis on trading with Advanced Civilization are what make the game a very enjoyable experience. The rules are generally simpler in Advanced Civilization but the nuances are greatly more complicated. While you are only allowed to collect a certain number of Civilization cards in the original game, the increase in selection in the Advanced game really means a freedom of your civilization to evolve the way you see fit. The increased number of selections also force you to make unique choices dependent on your standing and position on the game board. Your "inferior" label seems to be misplaced, when you look at the broader implications of the simpler rules of Advanced Civ. Lets compare a simple game of poker with four players at the table, with a four-way battle of Star Fleet Battles. Am I to assume that poker is inferior to Star Fleet Battles because of the rules? While the rules of poker are by far simpler, the nuances are much more than the rules imply. I think that this goes the same for Advanced Civilization. The emphasis is placed on the trading and individual decisions the player must make. While the rules to trading are very simple, and the process of purchasing Civilization cards is very simple to grasp, the overall decision making variables are much higher, and it is the job of the player to try to choose the correct path to obtain a higher score. I have played many games of Advanced Civ. as the Assyrian player, and no two games have ever been the same. While playing the African player mostly with Original Civ, the decision making process was much more limited and it is very easy to make the same obvious choices from turn one, from game to game, without variation. In Civilization, it is easy to play the game since you will be forced to do the same thing over and over, from game to game. Advanced Civilization forces you to react differently, by sheer force of options.
