Spearhead

Miniatures Rules Review

by Dave Franklin

Just played a Spearhead game Saturday, British vs. Germans as a matter of fact. I concur with the other response in that the rules are very playable, and his comment about abstractions is valid as well.

I would say; however, that regardless of the rule set's claim, it was written for micro armor. The main maneuver element is the battalion, and they put several on the table at one time. Thus, both from a table space and cost point of view, it appears written for micro armor.

That being said, we play 15mm, so we have adapted it slightly and use the company as the primary maneuver element. We do as the rules suggest and bump the ranges by 1.5, and essentially anywhere the rules say Battalion, we read Company. The game we played Sunday was 5 players, 3 of whom had never played Spearhead before, and we played 13 turns in 3 1/2 hours.
