This variant is a very important modification for die-hard Advanced Civilization players. The main charm and appeal of Advanced Civilization is how there are no dice to randomize outcomes of conflict. The only remaining stand of chance is the non-tradable calamities. Once you receive this non-tradable calamity, you are stuck with it, and luck is needed in dodging it. Well, there is no luck when you can trade any and all calamities.

This variant can be used with almost any other variant, including the nine-player variant. There are no more complaints from poor losers and no more excuses other than the fact that you were beaten fair and square by other worthy opponents.
