The Microgame Co-op ( http://www.ocii.com/~kanderso/coop.html) is proud to announce the release of its latest line of games. These include Michael Gilbert's The Siege of Hong Kong, Brian Train's Shining Path, and Kerry Anderson's Ypres: 1915. Siege of Hong Kong: On December 8, 1941, Japan launched a land, sea and air assault that conquered all of Southeast Asia and the East Indies in six months. One important event in this campaign was the capture of Hong Kong. This British colony on the south coast of China was an economic prize the Japanese could not pass up, and a fortress they could not leave standing. The Siege of Hong Kong is a simulation of the final invasion of Hong Kong Island, which began after five days of shelling on December 18, and ended on December 25, with the surrender of the last surviving defenders. Shining Path (Sendero Luminoso in Spanish) is an extremist faction of the Peruvian Communist Party. It has been waging an 'armed struggle' against the Peruvian government since 1980. It is the most radical revolutionary Marxist guerrilla organization in the West today, and the movement with the greatest chance of achieving its goal of toppling the government and instituting its own social order. Shining Path is a game simulating the conflict between the Sendero Luminoso Maoist guerrillas and the Government of Peru. This guerrilla war started in 1980 and continues to this day. During the game, the Sendero Player tries to fray the fabric of Peruvian society and replace government power with his own structures. Meanwhile, the government player fights a struggle against the Sendero guerrillas, corruption, and the wretched state of the Peruvian economy. Ypres 1915 At 5:00 PM, April 22, 1915, the Germans released the first gas cloud on the Western Front against an Algerian and a French Territorial division. Those who survived the immediate effects of the gas panicked and fled creating a four mile wide gap in the Ypres salient. The only available troops to fill this gap were a handful of Canadian and British reserves. The ensuing fight, known as the Second Battle of Ypres, continued for control of the salient. On May 1, the Allies decided to withdraw to a smaller, less tenuous perimeter around the city. Ypres: 1915 is a brigade/regiment level game simulation of the Second Battle of Ypres. Players assume the roles of the commanders of the German and Allied troops as they desperately fight for this valuable position in the line. Other Microgame Co-op games include Arriba Espana: The Spanish Civil War, Astromachia: Starship combat, Land of the Free: American politics during the Depression, MacArthur's War: The Korean War and beyond, Smokejumpers: Solitaire forest fire fighting, The Final Frontier: Man's expansion into the Solar System.
