This is a brief note for those who own either the first or second Mayfair edition of "Settlers of Catan," and are interested in purchasing future expansions. Lou Rexing of Mayfair Games has stated that all future Settlers English-language products will be compatible (in artwork as in everything else) with the new, third edition of the basic set. That is, he will not be releasing anything in the future specifically compatible with the first two Mayfair editions.

This may present a problem, if an expansion like "Cities and Armies" adds production or resource cards to the basic deck, since the third edition cards are a larger size. However, first or second edition owners can buy a pack of just the third edition development & resource cards for $10 plus $2 s/h. Also, those who want additional player colors can order 4 sets of first/second edition pieces for $7, depending on availability. (Red may be gone, for instance.)
